Brigadier General Gholam-Reza Jalali, a senior military official in Iran, claiming the existence of the worm type malware attacks on the country.
As quoted from TheRegister, Tuesday (26/04/2011), Jalali said the attack was still under investigation. The worm was dubbed the Stars and is referred to asvirus spy.
"Some characteristics of the Stars has been identified, including that it is compatible with systems that were attacked and damaged a little and could initially only be considered as one executable file owned by the government," said Jalali, head of the anti-sabotage unit in Iran.
Jalali did not mention what computer system targeted by the Stars. He also said his country should prepare for similar attacks in the future.
On the other hand, antivirus researchers outside of Iran claimed to have discovered or check the presence of the worm named Stars. F-Secure, for example, said it is not able to claim Jalali associate with the virus they studied.
"We do not know whether this is another cyber attack against Iran. We also do not know whether this is just regular Windows worm which was announced as the attacks in the cyber war," said Mikko Hypponen, antivirus research at F-Secure.
